POSITION DESCRIPTION
Summary
The Alcohol and Drug Counselor Student Intern (ADC
Intern) is a student in a bona fide counselor education training program. The ADC Intern, working under the clinical
and administrative supervision of the LADC Supervisor, is responsible for
providing ongoing assessment, treatment planning, individual and group
counseling sessions, individual and group recovery education, treatment plan
reviews, continuing care planning, and other written clinical
documentation. All services are to be
provided according to regulations established by Minnesota 245G and the
Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy. The ADC Intern
must participate in weekly clinical supervision provided by a Licensed Alcohol
and Drug Counselor Supervisor.
This position has the authority to execute their
job responsibilities as needed with the consent of the Treatment Director, CEO
or ADC Supervisor. Consent to execute
duties contained in this description and otherwise necessary to ensure adequate
job performance is implied based on active employment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Alcohol and Drug Counselor Intern has no administrative supervisory
responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Minimum of high school diploma or General
Educational Development (GED). Must be enrolled
in a formal alcohol and drug counselor training program at an accredited
college or university.
Additional
Requirements: Must be at least 21
years of age and must be free of substance use problems for at least two years
immediately preceding their hiring and must sign a statement attesting to that
fact.
Reports to: LADC Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities:
1.
Participate
in new employee orientation within first 24 hours of beginning internship
placement.
2.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, complete Comprehensive Assessment and
Summaries according to standards stipulated by Minnesota 245G.
3.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, complete Initial Services Plan with
assigned clients according to standards stipulated by Minnesota 245G.
4.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, involve clients in the development of
individualized treatment plan.
5.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, assess clients for potential
vulnerabilities using criteria stipulated in the Program Abuse Prevention Plan.
6.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, develop Individual Abuse Prevention Plans
for Vulnerable Adults as needed.
7.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, review and update Individual Abuse
Prevention Plans weekly or as needed.
8.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, develop comprehensive individualized
treatment plans with specific and measurable goals, objectives
and interventions for each assigned client within the first 5 sessions.
9.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, update and revise
treatment plans in consultation with the client every 7 days or more
frequently, as needed. Treatment plans
are to be developed and updated according to standards stipulated by Minnesota
245G.
10.
Meet
individually with each client in the caseload at least once each week.
11.
Provide
legible documentation of client participation and progress in the electronic
client health record.
12.
Enter
progress notes in a client’s file weekly or immediately following any
significant event.
13.
Facilitate
group chemical dependency counseling and education under supervision and/or
direction of the LADC Supervisor.
14.
Involve the
client in the development and implementation of a viable, individualized
continuing care plan.
15.
Communicate
on a regular and timely basis with the LADC Supervisor.
16.
Complete
written consultation requests for mental health and/or psychiatric services as
directed by the LADC Supervisor.
17.
Consult with
consulting mental health professional as needed regarding clients with
co-occurring disorders.
18.
Assist
concerned persons (family members, friends) with resources for sober support
during and following treatment as needed or requested.
19.
Under the
supervision of the LADC Supervisor, contact referents (if an appropriate
consent for release of information is in place) within the first three business
days of admission and weekly thereafter, to provide progress updates and
consultation regarding continuing care planning.
20. Report unsafe conditions to the Treatment Director.
21.
Interact with
clients and other staff in ethically and legally appropriate manner.
22.
Attend
mandatory in-services.
23.
Assist in
orientation of new employees and interns.
24. Work within recognized Code of Ethics for Alcohol
and Drug Counselors as stated by the National Association for Alcohol and Drug
Counselors (NAADAC).
25.
Demonstrate a
professional attitude and support the objectives of the program’s business
development/marketing and guest relations philosophy through internal and
external communications and interactions with co-workers, clients, family
members, visitors, community and referral sources.
26. Complete other duties as assigned by the Treatment
Director and LADC Supervisor.

development activities as scheduled.

conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.

Maintain confidentiality of program employees and
client information.
